Carnivals and Brazillians

February 8th, 2006 No comments

This is a festive time of year for the world’s largest Catholic country. February 25 marks the beginning of Carnival, revelry in the true spirit of human indulgence.

The government is distributing 25 MILLION condoms as part of its anti-AIDS efforts, despite objections by the Church over what they consider to be promotion of casual sex.

In other news, seat belts have been found to promote reckless driving.

Winter warmth

February 2nd, 2006 No comments

It’s Groundhog Day.

It’s 55 degrees outside, sunny. When I got into my car to go to lunch, the A/C came on because the car was warmer than 70 degrees inside.

On a day like this, a groundhog would surely see his shadow, but he would also feel the awesome warmth on his back and face and decide it must already be Spring.

Oregon’s DWDA stands!

In a 6-3 ruling (Justices Roberts, Scalia and Thomas in the minority), the Supreme Court has found that the US Controlled Substances Act does not permit the Federal Government to prosecute in matters of assisted suicide, specifically in cases where a physician prescribes a lethal dose of a controlled substance.

An amended CSA would eliminate this right nationwide and force terminally ill patients to seek alternative exit strategies, most of which are far less pleasant.

Vatican revises afterlife

January 17th, 2006 No comments

Catholic spiritual leaders met in the Vatican this week to do away with limbo. Limbo is where unbaptized babies go when they die.

This was a strategic move on behalf of the Church to make the faith more appealing to the developing world, where infant mortality rates are very high. What happens to all the baby souls currently in limbo is up for grabs. Perhaps they get to Heaven by default. Perhaps they’re happy there and will prefer to stay. Or perhaps they’ll get a second chance as newborn babies.

Indians still scared of ghosts, prone to panic

January 17th, 2006 No comments

Some Indians in India barred themselves in their homes as a community member reported dead in prison returned home. Family and friends alike fled in fear, and the village council demanded that he prove he was not a ghost, unwilling to take the word of a possible specter.

Lexus LS finally grows up

January 16th, 2006 No comments

Lexus’ flagship sedan has long been the car of choice among luxury car owners who value reliability and comfort, but competing German sedans have always had more aggressive styling and finer amenities. No longer.

The 2007 LS460 is a car truly worthy of the Lexus brand.
